Visual Studio Tools for Office System has failed to install
 

The Visual Studio Tools for the Office System has failed to install.

This error caused the install process to stop before it has attempted to install SQL Server 2005 Express and Ezidoesit.
It is probably caused by the computer being rebooted during the Ezidoesit installation process.

Downloading the Tools for Office install from the Microsoft link below and install it separately, then run the Ezidoesit install again.

Generating user instances in SQL Server is disabled

If you get the following message -

“Generating user instances in SQL Server is disabled. Use sp_configure ‘user instances enabled’ to generate user instances.”

Then you need to -
  • Download this file - SQL User instance fix
  • Extract the files from the zip file
  • Double click on ‘RUN.bat’ file to run this file
The above 3 steps should fix the problem.

This error is caused by SQL Server 2005 Express being installed with this option disabled before Ezidoesit is installed.

By default when SQL Server 2005 Express is installed this option is normally enabled.
 

 
 
 


Ezidoesit Installation Instructions

There are 3 Ezidoesit software products - Standard Edition, Professional Edition and Enterprise Edition. All 3 products install the same way, take the same time and require the same software prerequisites.
To install Ezidoesit follow the instructions below.

Ezidoesit install
This requires broadband Internet access from your desktop or notebook PC because the install process downloads support files from the Microsoft website.
 
If you are running Microsoft Outlook 2007 click on the Ezidoesit_x_x_xx_2007.exe program file. The xx is the version number and this will vary depending on what is the latest version no when you download the Ezidoesit program. As an example the filename would be Ezidoesit_1_1_64_2007.exe.
 
If you are running Microsoft Outlook 2003 then the file would be Ezidoesit_1_1_64_2003.exe.

The Ezidoesit installation requires that you have local administrator rights on your computer. On Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Windows 7, select the Ezidoesit install file, right mouse click on the file and select the Run as Administrator option.
 
The install process checks whether the following software components are already installed on your computer and if they are not they will first be download them from the Microsoft website and then installed. 
  • Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 - 10 minutes to install
  • Office 2007 Primary Interop Assemblies - (for Outlook 2007) - 1 minute to install
  • Visual Studio Tools for Office 3.0 runtime - (for Outlook 2007) - 1 minute to install
  • Office 2003 Primary Interop Assemblies - (for Outlook 2003) - 1 minute to install
  • Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition runtime - (for Outlook 2003) - 1 minute to install
  • SQL Server 2005 Express Edition SP2 - 7 minutes to install
  • Ezidoesit - 1 minute or less to install
The install time is mostly spent installing the latest version of the Microsoft .NET Framework or runtime file and Microsoft SQL Server. All of the above items should be installed in approximately 20 minutes but this may vary slightly on different PCs.

If you have any of the above Microsoft components already installed on your PC then the install time will take less time.

Once the above files are installed future updates to the Ezidoesit software will take about 30 seconds to install.

Important Note: In Windows Vista a message to re-start your computer will display in the bottom right of the screen. Do Not restart - Choose restart later. If the Ezidoesit install process asks you to re-install your computer answer Yes.

Updates to Ezidoesit are on the Ezidoesit website under the Updates menu.
